Acadian Maple has always had a policy of
limiting it's impact on the environment in every way possible. This
policy is pretty simple but we take it very seriously. Being a smaller
family based business we do as much as possible with the resources available
to us. Ultimately our delicious gourmet foods come from the forests,
bogs and fields of Nova Scotia and it is in our best interest to do as much
as we can to keep our climate clean to protect these amazing resources.
Since it
is everyone's responsibility to look after this earth of ours we make sure
we do our part, both as a family and as a business. As a result we
take every possible step to ensure our companies total operations are run in
such a manner as to not damage the immediate surrounding environment and
limit our impact on our community and our earth.
Some of the steps we take to achieve this goal are: - Keeping our buildings and offices at an adequate but not exorbitant temperature. We use digital thermostates to ensure the heat comes on and goes off when necessary. - Unfortunately there is no recycling or composting services offered in the Wentworth area of Nova Scotia where our packaging plant is located. So we ensure all cardboard and plastic packaging is brought down to Halifax to be recycled. As well, all the DE that we use in the filtering process is collected in buckets and transported to Halifax with our regular shipments. It is then added to our weekly composting pickup. - Re-using every piece of packaging material possible. Because of the large volume of packing and shipping we do a large amount of waste is created. Much of this waste is recycled back into our supply chain in the form of cushioning material for fragile shipments. If it is unusable we ensure that it is either recycled or composted in a proper manner. - The Vast majority of the cases we use for packaging our maple jugs in are re-used, some up to 4 times. This is a great way to reduce the amount of cardboard and all it's carbon inputs that we use. After a box becomes too damaged we ensure it is recycled. We are continuously trying to decrease our impact on the environment by curbing our energy consumption, recycling wherever possible and educating or valued customers on the environmental benefits of supporting locally produced pure maple syrup. We thank everyone for their support.
